Publisher Random House Children's Books will release its first iPhone app next month: My CriBaby.
Developed by Somethin' Else, it's a virtual baby game designed to promote the release of Malorie Blackman's new book Boys Don't Cry.
Players have to look after the baby for three virtual years, and are scored on their skills at feeding, burping and playing with their virtual child.
Two versions of the app will be available when it launches next week, and both will include the first chapter of the book.
"Malorie has a huge fan base of devoted teenage readers who will no doubt be as excited about the My CriBaby app as we are," says Random House Children's Books' marketing director Barry O'Donovan.
