At the Apple press conference today, the new Siri voice-recognition tools stole the show–allowing you to control your iPhone 4S with intelligent voice commands. The new tool will help writers dictate text, search online and use apps, but unfortunately it will only be available on the iPhone 4S.
To help all our readers who won’t be buying the new phone, we’ve collected links to five different kinds of dictation apps you can install on your smartphone.
The links below will help anyone with a BlackBerry, Android, Windows or iOS mobile devices replicate the voice recognition features on the new iPhone.
1. Dragon Dictation: Free iOS app lets you dictate stories to your iOS device.
2. Google Search app: Free voice recognition app works iPhone, BlackBerry, and Nokia S60 V3 phones.
3. Shoutout: “ShoutOUT is a full-featured messaging app with voice dictation. Speak your Facebook and Twitter status updates on iPhone or address your contacts on Android and Brew by voice”
4. DriveSafe.ly Speech Recognition: “a mobile application that reads text (SMS) messages and emails aloud in real time and automatically responds without drivers touching the mobile phone.” Works for iPhone, Blackberry, Android or Windows phones.
5.Dragon Go!: free iOS app lets you search the web and access apps with voice commands.
