The people behind the annual digital publishing conference Tools of Change for Publishing are to hold a one-day version of the event in Frankfurt on the eve of this year's fair.
The conference, which is held annually in New York and organised by O'Reilly Media, will take place on Tuesday, 13th October 2009 at a venue "conveniently located near the Frankfurt Book Fair". Organisers say that it will have an "international perspective" having realised that "the opportunities for publishers are now truly global ones".
Featured speakers will include writer, blogger, and technology activist Cory Doctorow; Michael Tamblyn, recently named v.p. of Content, Sales, and Merchandising for mobile apps specialist Shortcovers; Peter Brantley, director of the Internet Archive; and Sara Lloyd, digital director for Pan Macmillan UK.Andrew Savikas, v.p. of digital initiatives for O’Reilly Media, said: "Tools of Change for Publishing is helping shape the future of the publishing and media landscape, and bringing that message of change to the international audience attending Frankfurt is recognition that many of the opportunities for publishers are now truly global ones."
Thomas Minkus, press officer for the Frankfurt Book Fair, added: "Addressing the subject of digitisation and the new business models arising from it are key to the future success of our industry. Digitisation and the building of new business relationships are what draw people to Frankfurt."
According to the organisers TOC Frankfurt will place the future of publishing into a meaningful context, offer practical advice about establishing new business models for paid content, and provide the networking opportunities to help publishers connect with like-minded participants from all over the world. For the past two years O’Reilly’s TOC Conference has been a sell-out in New York. The last conference took pace in February, while next year's is slated for 22nd to 24th February 2010
