Hats off to the New Zealand Herald for their support of AWRF. In their popular Saturday Weekend Edition they presented the excellent weekly magazine Canvas as The Books Issue.
The lead story was a two pager by London-based Stephen Jewell on Festival star Kathy Lette (left) under the heading Queen of the Quiplash. Then several pages of photographs and interviews in which four local bibiliophiles opened up their home home libraries, followed by an Observer article by Tom Lamont on re-reading old favourites, then a piece on Nicholas Sparks' tear jerkers. Also included were three pages of reviews by three authors attending the Festival - Eoin Coffer, Stephanie Johnson, Charlotte Wood, and a David Larsen interview of Lemon Andersen.
Then again in the Herald on Sunday a double page spread by Danielle Wright in which she wrote of discovering Auckland through books ahead of the AWRF. Then on Nicky Pellegrino's weekly book page, in addition to her review of Fifty Shades of Grey, she listed her Festival picks - Kathy Lette, Fiona Kidman, Rhys Darby, and Barbara Arrowsmith-Young.
Well done the Herald!
And mustn't overlook the Sunday Star Times where Books Editor Mark Broatch talked to Festival star Geoff Dyer, Anthony Hubbard spoke to another Festival star, Dame Stella Rimington,(left) and there were three pages of book reviews.
