The Guardian is launching an interactive map of the UK and Ireland’s bookshops in association with National Book Tokens.The map, which will have “a prominent position on the Guardian Books website”, will launch in early June and will allow users to pinpoint great bookshops, authors’ birthplaces and literary events such as book festivals.
Booksellers will be able to upload information about their shops to the map and the Guardian multimedia team will produce “short, inspiring films featuring locations and bookshops which form part of the country’s literary heritage". Audio podcasts, editorial blogs, tweets and a mix of regular online and print promotional activity will also be built around the map.
Claire Armitstead, books editor for Guardian News and Media, said: ”We see bookshops as a vibrant part of the literary landscape, and we have big ambitions to make this the first port of call for any book lover looking to find a book, get expert advice, discover literary landmarks, or to share their own experiences of the very best bookshops around.”
Jenny Sheils, marketing manager at National Book Tokens added: “We are committed to promoting high street bookselling and are really pleased to be working with the Guardian, who share our passion for bookshops.”
