E-BOOK NEWS FROM GALLEY CAT:

Smartphone eBook Readers Multiply
By Jason Boog on Oct 27, 2009

In a quarterly "Global eBook Metrics Report," the mobile phone e-reader company Wattpad reported some impressive stats--a snapshot of a rapidly-growing readership around the world.
Here's a sample set of statistics from the report: "Wattpad mobile usage continues to grow. Subscribers now come from 600 mobile operators in more than 160 countries with cumulative downloads of over 4 million. Although Java devices continue to be the most popular mobile ebook devices, the usage gap between Java devices and iPhone is shrinking. Fewer than 50 percent of eBook consumption was on Java devices while 42 percent of [eBook consumption] was on iPhone."
These represent some dramatic increases from the previous quarter. During the second quarter of 2009, WattPad reported that 63 percent of all eBook readers used Java version of the e-reader while only 33 percent of readers used the iPhone version. In addition, Blackberry eBook readership has increased by 160 percent over that same time period.
