NZ Poet celebrates 80th birthday
Kevin Ireland, one of New Zealand’s most prominent and well-loved writers, turns 80 this week and is celebrating with the launch of his Selected Poems 1963–2013, in his home town, Devonport.
This is his 20th book of poetry, 50 years after his first book in 1963. He has also published short stories, six novels, and two memoirs.
Kevin has won numerous awards, including the 2004 Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Achievement and in 2006 the A W Reed Award for his contribution to New Zealand literature.
In 2000 he received an honorary doctorate from Massey University.
The launch is at 7.30pm at the Devonport Library, Windsor Reserve, Victoria Road on Thursday 18 July - all welcome
