Boutique children’s publisher Book Island encourages children’s love of beautiful books through activity and imagination.
Their latest picture book, Maia and What Matters, follows the endearing relationship of an impatient young girl and her equally impatient grandmother. Their insatiable love of cake has inspired Book Island to hold a Baking and Writing Competition.
This competition will bring Maia and What Matters to life by encouraging children to bake a family recipe with their grandparents or a family friend and send in a written piece about its history.
The highly popular young baker Jordan Rondel, The Caker, will judge the competition alongside publisher Greet Pauwelijn and will provide a delicious prize for the Auckland-based winners. Winners around the country will receive Book Island book vouchers for them and their schools.
Today Book Island launch their Meet Maia Blog Tour to promote the book and the competition. This week they will tour Maia and What Matters to more than a dozen blogs in New Zealand, Australia, the UK and Ireland. Meet Maia will introduce the author, illustrator, translator and publisher, post reviews, advertise details about the competition and offer giveaways for eager readers.
In New Zealand Maia will travel to My Best Friends Are Books, Around the Bookshops, The Caker, the Kids’ Blog of the Wellington City Libraries and more.
To celebrate our first blog visit we are kicking off with a giveaway of Maia and What Matters. Just email greet@bookisland.co.nz before 12th November with your favourite type of cake and you will be in the draw to win!
