App of the week: Audible - one for book lovers

App of the week: Audible
This is one for the book lover. Audible provides an application and a paid service which allows you to listen to the best books read aloud, in some cases by the author.
With a catalogue of more than 100,000 books, it's likely you'll find Audible has plenty you'll enjoy listening to.
The Audible app helps you find titles and then allows you to listen to them directly from the app.
If you spend regular time commuting or exercising, then you probably already have time to listen to books using the Audible app.
As I found out from the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind, New Zealanders have had access to Talking Books since 1937, when books were first provided on gramophone records.
Having access to Audible's catalogue via a mobile app is certainly a leap forward from those days, although the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind still has a library service.
Visit Audible.com to either sign up for a subscription or buy individual books. From the website, you'll find links to download the Audible app.
You can use audible on iPhone, Windows Phone, Android, Blackberry and even the Kindle e-book reader.
