Tuesday 15 September 2015:
The first book from World Economic
Forum senior director Saadia
Zahidi has been acquired by Nation Books. Zahidi's outline for
the book was the inaugural winner of the Bracken Bower Prize, backed by the
Financial Times and McKinsey, in 2014. The £15,000 prize goes to the best business
book proposal from a writer under 35. Zahidi's proposal stood out from 120
entries for the Bracken Bower Prize, received from 33 countries.
The closing date for this year's prize is September 30.
The book is
about the 40 million women across the Muslim World who have entered the
workforce in the last decade alone, telling the stories of the remarkable
women—from McDonald’s workers to software technicians—who are at the forefront
of this revolution, and revealing how they will permanently reshape their
countries' economies and societies. The book’s North American
rights were sold to editor Katy O’Donnell at Nation Books, by literary
agent Eric Lupfer at William Morris Endeavor.
Lynda
Gratton of London Business School, a judge of both the 2014 and 2015 prizes,
said: "It's a delight to judge budding writers and wonderful when their
dream to publish comes true. This is a heartfelt narrative of voices we hear
too infrequently. It deserves to be read by everyone who cares about women
around the world."
