Dorothy Butler, Children's Bookseller Extraordinaire, R.I.P.

It was with great sadness that I learned last evening of the death of my old friend Dorothy Butler this past Sunday.

A full notice appears in the NZ Herald Family Notices section this am.

A service to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held at the North Harbour Chapel of Dil's Funeral Services, 185 Schnapper Rock Road, Albany on Friday 25 September at 12 noon followed by a private cremation.

The only picture I could find on file of Dorothy was the one posted right in which she and I are obviously very happy about something? At a book launch perhaps?

The photo is indeed at a book launch - that of the second part of Dorothy's autobiography 'All this and a Bookshop Too'
You spoke at the event and produced your speech on your blog here: http://beattiesbookblog.blogspot.co.nz/2009/06/all-this-and-bookshop-too-dorothy.html - a lovely summary of Dorothy's life.

Dorothy was a towering figure in the world of children's books and will be sadly missed.
The photo is indeed from a book launch - the launch of Dorothy's autobiography in 2009.
