The first-ever documentary on Maya Angelou, the beloved author, poet, and humanitarian whose work spans the past 50 years, has launched a Kickstarter. The documentary is set to premiere on the PBS series American Masters, but the production team needs help finishing the project. Interview subjects include friends like Oprah Winfrey, Bill Clinton, and Common, plus Guy Johnson, Dr. Angelou’s son. The campaign ends on December 1. Leading up to the documentary’s 2016 debut, we’re celebrating the I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings author by looking back at some of her words of wisdom on writing and the creative process.
