Whether hand-me-down collections of family recipes, sumptuous fine dining
coffee-table books, or even the retro gems of 1970's microwave cookery - good
cookbooks are always thought-provoking. Pop-up restaurant Egg & Spoon
is celebrating the humble cookbook by making a return to Grey Lynn café Monterey
Coffee Lounge for a bi-monthly series of chatty cookbook-themed dining
experiences.
For $50 per head, diners will be treated to a three-course meal, plus aperitif, themed around a specific cookbook genre chosen by Egg & Spoon chef Dan Pearson. Guests are encouraged to bring their own favourite cookbooks in keeping with that month's particular theme, compare books and even swap recipes around large communal tables - a lively setting perfect to indulge in cookbook geekery.
The first book club will be held on Monday 15th October at
7:00pm and will celebrate Dan’s culinary roots in British cookery, featuring three
courses inspired by ‘Nose to Tail’ by
Fergus Henderson of London’s St John Bar & Restaurant.
An aperitif is also included in the price, while wine, beer and other
beverages will be available to purchase at Monterey Coffee Lounge on the night.
