Cover blurb:
Set in contemporary Auckland and Northland, New Zealand, The Misfits is a heartbreaking portrait of the non-stars of society, examining how the lives of Alma, Analise, Ash and Jake become intertwined as they face their own unique contradictions and paradoxes. Will Analise, a woman who thought she'd never be a dairy farmer's wife, be saved by her devotion? How does Ash, a retired accountant with a plan to do some neighbourhood restoration, cope when he discovers the illicit betrayal by his housekeeper of 20 years? Does Alma, a young advertising exec, need someone to help her bear the loss of her father? Or does she need more, where she wouldn't expect to find it? And how does Jake, a DJ with his feet in a grimy club, conquer his fears for the loss of his daughter? How can he bring about the unification of his estranged family?

In the end only one person will survive their story. Who will it be?
