Summer Fiction School & other courses

the creativehub auckland’s waterfront writing centre

You might be a bit distracted by beautiful tall ships coming and going (and the notorious Maritime Museum midday cannon) but what better way to spend a few days in early January than to have a bit of fun in a beautiful waterfront room, while learning new writing skills? Our renowned Summer Fiction School is now in its fourth year.
Our eight week Intro to Creative Writing course kicks off in Feb, followed by our popular E / Niche / Self-Publishing Workshop, presented by former Penguin publisher Geoff Walker, and Frankfurt Book Fair author Tui Allen. The publishing scene has changed forever in the last few years, and this workshop present a timely update.
In March, a new offering from us … a two day Business Writing course, taught by leading PR guru, Tom Romeo. Make your business or not-for-profit more successful and effective by fine-tuning your business writing skills. More details below.

E / Niche / Self-Publishing Workshop, Sat, 22 March, 1 day
After the popularity of our first workshop, we are running a second electronic / self-publishing workshop with former Penguin publisher Geoff Walker and successful e-published author Tui Allen. Geoff is NZ’s most successful publisher, having directed the publishing programme at Penguin for the last 26 years. He has published Witi Ihimaera, Lloyd Jones, Michael King, CK Stead and a host of other NZ greats.
Tui and Geoff will guide participants through the niche publishing opportunities opening up, now that mainstream publishing options have contracted internationally and locally. These includes channels such as Amazon’s CreateSpace, Kindle publishing and SmashWords. They will talk about the pros and cons of each, and how you can prepare a manuscript locally to maximise your chances of success through these exciting new channels. Enrol here
