A Very Unusual Concert

SHAKY PLACES CONCERT
Sunday 15 November, 4pm
Sacred Heart Cathedral, Hill Street, Wellington
About 1 hour 10 minutes performance time.
Tickets from Ticketek. (Some seats may be available at the door.)

SHAKY PLACES: THE WORK
Fourteen poems by NZ poets chosen by Rachel McAlpine and set to music by Capital Choir director Felicia Edgecombe. The poets are Brian Turner, Robert Sullivan, Lauris Edmond, Riemke Ensing, Gregory O’Brien, Bub Bridger, Sam Hunt, Jenny Bornholdt, Marewa Glover, Bill Manhire, Jeffrey Paparoa Holman, Dinah Hawken and Rachel McAlpine. Each poem will be read by Geoff Robinson, who used to sing tenor in Capital Choir, before the choir sings the song.

SHAKY PLACES: THE BOOK
A high quality print publication has been published by Capital Choir containing the songs, the poems, and background notes.

TALK AND SINGALONG AT THE NZ POETRY CONFERENCE
Felicia Edgecombe, the composer, and Rachel McAlpine will talk about Shaky Places at the conference at 2pm Saturday 14 November. Jeffrey Paparoa Holman and Marewa Glover will read their poems and join in the discussion, and we hope everyone will join in and sing one or two of the songs.

THE CHOIR

Capital Choir is an all-comers choir. No auditions: just join if you love to sing. That’s one delight of Shaky Places — that community choirs now have something truly Kiwi and truly terrific and brand new to sing. Invited soloists and instrumentalists give the performance a touch of magic while this 72-strong choir sings its collective heart out.

This is a project close to my heart. I'm happy because Shaky Places adds a new work to the repertoire of NZ choral music — choirs everywhere will be singing about New Zealand, our own joys and fears as expressed by our own poets. I'm in the choir and we are loving the music and relishing the words.
