Before we even start the book
You have work to do before you get to your first chapter. There is BY GOD more preamble than an ER "and previously".
Sitting on the bus to work – flashbacks to 2012, a time when openly reading Fifty Shades books on the Tube was totally okay – I waded through About the Book (descriptions of Anastasia pinched from previous books), About the Author, Also by EL James (the Fifty Shades books), Title Page, a dedication ("to those readers who asked...and asked...and asked...and asked for this. Thank you for all that you've done for me. You rock my world every day" - except, presumably the fan fic fans) and the acknowledgements, which read like someone's Oscar speech long-practised in their bathroom.
