Virgin has bought what is billed as the first insider account of US President Barack Obama's rise to power. Renegade: The Making of Barack Obama is written by British journalist Richard Wolffe, who covered Obama's campaign as Newsweek's senior White House correspondent, and was granted the first print interview in the Oval Office as well as other exclusive interviews.
"Wolffe shares with us his front row seat, outlining Obama's rise to power with incredible insider detail," said the publisher.
The book, for which Virgin editorial director Ed Faulkner acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Linda Kaplan at Crown, is being rushed through the schedule and will be published in hardback in August. The title Renegade comes from the codename given to Obama by the US Secret Service.
