Children's Reading App on iPhone.
Houghton Rolls Out Curious George App

Read the full article at Publishers Weekly.
Is this a good thing?
Personally I think Mobiles have limited value in the reading space due to screen size but then I'm old (i.e. not a teenager anymore). Not sure about young children reading on a small screen. But then again my daughter has an Nintendo DS and Gameboy and their is the PSP so maybe I'm being... er....old! Wondering what others think.

The above from Keith Mockett, independent computer software consultant.

Definitely a good idea. We've all been reading e-books, or rather e-texts of all shapes and sizes, on our computers for 20 years, and the handy portable devices people already carry are the next frontier. iPhone and iPod and other similar-sized screens are adequate for reading continuous text: what you need it seems to me is 7 lines of 8-11 words and good navigation tools. Dedicated e-book readers might have a future as giveaways by firms like Amazon and Mills & Boon with alot of product to sell, but that's all.

I can only go on what the younger members of the, quite large, whanau are doing: sending txts, involved in Twitter/Face./My. etc. etc.on their g-3s - and none of them downloading anything that could remotely be described as a book (or a short story - tho' there are poems doing the rounds).
'phones= social networking/info apps. Is all.

We just launched a series of kids iPhone books. Not surprisingly i think they are a good idea for kids. It doesn't replace books, its for when a a printed book isn't the most convenient. Check them out at http://www.istorytimeapp.com or on the App Store http://cli.gs/MEV8Dm

They are a bit less expensive than the Curious George one ($1.99 vs. $9.99).

let us know what you think.

have fun.
