Scholastic has announced that it will donate 1 million books to schools and libraries hard hit by superstorm Sandy. The company will also make available free to teachers online lesson plans and activities.
Scholastic is working with the nonprofit Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc. to distribute the books to schools and libraries in the New York City tri-state region. Schools interested in applying for book grants can go to www.scholastic.com/bookgrants. To access the lesson plans, Scholastic will send an e-mail to teachers in the affected areas with a link to the free materials.
“All of us at Scholastic are committed to getting these books, lesson plans and other learning materials into the affected communities as soon as possible in the hope that we can provide support for our young people as they return to schools that need extra resources,” said Richard Robinson (left), chairman, president and CEO of Scholastic.
