Auckland Writers & Readers Festival Artistic Director
Anne O’Brien is to take up the role of Festival Director of the event. The
Board announcement follows the resignation of General Manager Anne Rodda, who
is leaving the organisation to pursue commercial opportunities.
As Festival Director, Anne will oversee both programming and
operations for the organisation. She is currently working closely with the
Board and staff to re-align roles to support the change.
“After three years with Anne Rodda at the operational helm,
and the implementation of key systems, the Festival is extremely
well-positioned for its next period of growth. Anne O’Brien, who
joined us as Artistic Director in December 2011, has extensive management experience
alongside her programming skills, providing the opportunity to re-configure to
make best use of available resources,” said Board Chair Dr Sarah Sandley.
A trained journalist with a degree in English Literature,
Anne O’Brien has managed Wellington’s Writers & Readers Week, held the
position of executive director of not-for-profit organisation Women in Film and
Television through a three year period of major strategic change, and run her
own events management and production company.
“I’m delighted to take on this new opportunity and to work
with a committed and talented team to continue the development of this vibrant,
growing arts event,” Anne O’Brien said.
Anne O’Brien officially starts in her new position on 1
January 2013. The Auckland Writers & Readers Festival is New
Zealand’s leading celebration of literature and ideas. The 2013 event
will take place 15-19 May at the Aotea Centre in Auckland.
