awards Friday at their annual meeting (informally dubbed the Groupies by
BISG staff members). The honorees were:

In other awards, the October Target Book Club pick
is the new trade paperback edition of Ann Leary's THE

The Southern
California Independent Booksellers presented their awards on
Friday, to books ranging from Publishers Lunch Buzz Books Spring/Summer title
Tom McNeal's FAR
FAR AWAY for YA fiction to Marisa Silver's MARY
COIN for fiction.
The UK's Samuel Johnson Prize for nonfiction
announced its shortlist,
which includes at least two books US readers can enjoy now:
