Faber has launched a new novel with campaign handing out 30,000 samplers at busy Tube stations, and more given out at libraries. The publisher is promoting Apple Tree Yard by Louise Doughty this week by handing out the opening pages of the book during rush hour at stations in central London, with a map on the back of each sampler guiding readers to the nearest Waterstones to buy a copy.
Susan Holmes, consumer marketing manager at Faber, said: “When the manuscript for Apple Tree Yard was circulated by Louise's editor, Sarah Savitt, we were all hooked from the prologue - there was no way we weren't going to carry on reading. Throughout the months leading up to publication every person I've spoken to who has read the book has responded in the same way. This overwhelming response to the story and the quality of the writing made a sampling campaign the right choice. We wanted to give as many people as possible the opportunity to read that you-just-have-to-keep-reading prologue.”
As well as working with Waterstones, Faber has also worked with Foyles to give exclusive content, and with the literacy charity The Reading Agency to give out 5,000 samplers at libraries. The publisher has also launched a social media campaign with a competition to win an iPad Mini.
When the book launched on 6th June, the author gave readings outside the Faber offices in Bloomsbury along with a with a free coffee giveaway.
