Inspired by Auden at the Auckland Writers Festival - Alexander McCall Smith in conversation with Harry Ricketts
When facing a moral dilemma, Isabel Dalhousie – Edinburgh philosopher, amateur sleuth and title character in a series of novels by best-selling author Alexander McCall Smith – turns to the poet W. H. Auden.
For author McCall Smith, Auden is the best of guides to a well-lived life. In this enormously entertaining session, the hugely popular writer is in conversation with poet and fellow Auden lover Harry Ricketts about his book, What W.H.Auden Can Do for You. They also both read a
W.H. Auden poem or two which was especially well received by those at the sold-out event.
We went away feeling inspired and along with many others I headed to one of the Festival's excellent pop-up bookshops to buy a copy of the appealing little hardcover book.
