A wonderful evening with Sandi Toksvig at the Auckland Writers Festival

Sandi Toksvig, the Danish/British writer, comedian and all round treasure of the page, stage and airways, is on her first visit to New Zealand. She frequently tests her mettle on QI and Whose Line Is It Anyway? and as the chair of The News Quiz on the BBC’s Radio 4, a quickfire romp through the week’s news. She has also presented one-woman shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where our Festival director, Anne O'Brien, saw her perform and immediately invited her to be a participant at our Festival. Well done Anne.

She is an absolute star and this was a wide-ranging, witty and provocative evening with her discussing manners & ettiquette, cross-dressing, the Boer war, moon landings and a hundred and one other matters. It was a knockout show, a truly memorable event which I am sure will long live in the memories of the sell-out crowd occupying all three levels of the Aotea Centre's ASB Theatre.

The evening was chaired by Sean Plunket who did a marvellous job and clearly enjoyed himself. In fact at the end when inviting the audience to express their thanks to the star he said of all the Festival events he had chaired over the years this was by far the most memorable. I can believe that. I loved it and was buzzing for hours afterwards. Thanks Sandi, and please do come again.

Thanks  also to Platinum Patrons Erika and Robin Congreve who supported her visit.
