Antiquarian Book News from Ibookcollector

'The Bay Psalm Book'

David Redden, director of special projects for Sotheby’s New York, is touring the USA with a precious, historically significant book, The Bay Psalm Book. When it goes up for auction it is expected to raise about $30 million.

The work was translated from the book of Psalm which the Puritans brought to America from England and was more faithful to the original Hebrew. The Bay Psalm Book was printed on a press which was specially shipped from England. Of the 1,700 copies which were printed only eleven have survived. Of these (including this one) only six have the title-page intact.

The work will be auctioned on 26 November 2013 in New York.
