The Red Queen by Gemma Bowker–Wright
"Emily Perkins said once in an interview that she was trying to capture 'the strange ongoingness of life' in her writing. That’s a line that has really stuck with me. It’s so true. For me it captures the questions around time that arise as you age and how life keeps on going, despite plans or plots – there’s never a point you reach where you can say ‘I’m here now’, it just keeps going."
Gemma won the BNZ Katherine Mansfield Award for short fiction in 2011 and the Sunday Star Times short story competition in 2010.
The Red Queen is on sale from 4 July, p/b, $30
