In 1999, Michael Leunig was declared an Australian Living Treasure. A cartoonist, poet and cultural commentator, his drawings and philosophies have delighted and inspired generations – and been stuck on countless fridges. In conversation with writer Kate De Goldi, he talked frankly and openly about his work, his life and his latest titles Holy Fool and The Essential Leunig:
Leunig came across as a really decent, compassionate, complex and most likeable character. The session, interesting as it was, would have been greatly enhanced with images of his work on screen and perhaps some live on-stage drawing.
