Variety reports that the first movie inspired by Harry Potter spinoff book Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them will be released on November 18th, 2016. Harry Potter series author J. K. Rowling is writing the script for the film, adapting the book — which she wrote between the release of Harry Potter books four and five — for the big screen. The movie will be reportedly be the first of a planned trilogy to be made from the spinoff book, and will begin in New York, some seventy years before the start of The Boy Who Lived's adventures.

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them was released in 2001, and purports to be Harry Potter's own copy of the textbook of the same name, first mentioned in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. As in the book, Rowling's adaptation of the film will follow the exploits of "magizoologist" Newt Scamander, but the multi-millionaire author will need to expand on her source material to fill three planned movies — Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them weighs in at a slim 54 pages.
