A history of cartooning and comics in New Zealand - at the Auckland Writers Festival
Adrian Kinnaird’s handsome and appealing book From Earth’s End: The Best of New Zealand Comics (Random House) chronicles the history of a marginalised art form. His Festival session championed exemplars of local cartooning and comics – from the early newspaper strips of the 1920's through to the forgotten comics boom of the 1950s, to the graphic novelists of today.
This was a fascinating, wonderfully illustrated address by NZ's leading authority on the comic form.
The event was held at the Auckland Art Gallery who had located from their collection some early original graphic art by Noel Cook from the 1920's which was on display.
Supported by Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.
