Random House are proud to announce that the NZ Rugby
Kitchen has been selected as a finalist in the Charity Fundraising
category of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.
The NZ Rugby Kitchen contains a treasure trove
of hearty, tasty recipes from some of New Zealand’s top rugby talent both
present and past, with royalties going to the NZ Rugby Foundation. By taking
time out of their busy schedules to participate in this project all of the
players who have contributed have shown how important a charity the New Zealand
Rugby Foundation is to them. The foundation is vital in supporting
catastrophically injured rugby players financially and emotionally through
fund-raising and other activities; and proactively works with the New Zealand
Rugby Union to communicate the message of safety first.
Lisa Kingi, CEO for the foundation said “We are absolutely
delighted with this news, being shortlisted for the Gourmand Awards is a great
development for us. It’s not all about the financial return for us,
whilst vital obviously, it is the improved public awareness of the
Foundation as our key strategic focus and being able to reach so many new
sectors through a creative idea which really excites us. It wouldn’t have been
at all possible without the support of the New Zealand Rugby Union, New Zealand
Rugby Players Association and the willingness of the players to contribute to
our cause. Or of course the fantastic team at Random House to whom we are so
grateful."
The Gourmand awards are extremely prestigious and 154
countries participated in last year’s awards, entering books in 53 categories.
All countries, authors and publishers — big and small — are given equal
opportunity to enter.
