It’s not like the entire book is about pleasuring yourself. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian has been booted from a New York City school after complaints that the book was “about” masturbation. “It was like Fifty Shades of Grey,” a concerned parent of a sixth-grader said. One of the offending lines: “And if God hadn’t wanted us to masturbate, then God wouldn’t have given us thumbs.” The award-winning young adult novel is a first-person narrative about a Native American teen who transfers to an all white high school. So you know, not exactly “erotic” literature.
