Faber c.e.o. Stephen Page has joined the board of Bloomsbury as an independent non-executive director.Page, who has been at Faber since 2001, will now sit on the board of Bloomsbury, assessing strategy and performance at the publisher.
Jeremy Wilson, chairman of Bloomsbury, said: "The Board is delighted to welcome Stephen Page as an Independent Director. His depth of experience of digital innovation in trade publishing will bring new commercial insights and challenge to the Board to help drive value from Bloomsbury's cornerstone trade publishing processes and business."
Nigel Newton, founder and chief executive of Bloomsbury, said Page joined "as an individual" and that the arrangement should not be seen as bringing a closer relationship with Faber. He said: "At a board level there is no discussion of book acquisitions or any other similar matters, so the appointment will not lead to any conflicts...We have previously had a similar arrangement [with publisher Paul Scherer, formerly of Transworld] and found it works well to have people with publishing experience on the board as well as people with the traditional financial background. We recently appointed former Cengage c.e.o. Jill Jones to the board with her experience of academic publishing, and Stephen brings his own knowledge of independent and trade publishing."
Before taking the reins at Faber, Page was sales and marketing director at HarperCollins.
Page is a council member and former president of the Publishers Association, and a board member of Creative Skillset, a council for developing training in the creative industries.
Page also sat on the panel of the Sieghart Review into library e-book lending, and was named most inspiring digital publishing person at the 2012 FutureBook Innovation Awards.
