WALKER BOOKS AUSTRALIA RAISES OVER $3000 FOR THE INDIGENOUS LITERACY FOUNDATION

Wednesday 21st September, 2011 Sydney, Australia

Newtown’s literary scene came alive yesterday, Tuesday 20 September, as scores of book enthusiasts lined the pavements to get their hands on their favourite children’s titles at the annual Walker Books Garage Sale.
With all proceeds going toward the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, visitors were bagging bargains for as little as $2, with boxes of discounted picture books, junior fiction, young adult novels and board books (all end-of-line and sample products) feasted upon by mums, teachers, librarians and children alike throughout the afternoon.
The sale raised over $3000 for the Indigenous LiteracyFoundation, whose core aim is to raise literacy levels and thus improve the lives and opportunities of Indigenous Australians living in remote and isolated regions.
Sarah Foster, Managing Director and Publisher of Walker Books Australia, is thrilled to see the donations contribute toward such a worthy cause.
“We are keen supporters of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, and are thrilled to have the whole team at Walker Books out there supporting such an important Australian charity”.
Walker Books Garage Sale was held from 2pm – 5pm on Tuesday 20 September at Brennan’s Lane Newtown.
