Cressida Cowell has become the first children’s author to receive the Award for Contributions in the Fight Against Stupidity.
The award, presented by Philosophy Now magazine, honours individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to combating poor reasoning, unexamined assumptions and entrenched habits of thought.
Nominees can be philosophers, authors, scientists, journalists, playwrights or anyone else who has made an outstanding recent contribution to promoting knowledge, reason or public debate about issues that matter.
Philosopher Noam Chomsky was presented with the award last year. Other previous winners include Ben Goldacre, the author of Bad Science, and philosopher Mary Midgley.
