The Wynyard Quarter Arts Series is produced in partnership with Waterfront Auckland and in conjunction with the inaugural Macquarie Private Wealth New Zealand Arts Awards (recipients were announced on Tuesday). The series runs to 11 December 2011.
Join Arts Foundation representatives at our Information Hub. We are housed in a red container located next to the Viaduct Events Centre and will be open for the next two weeks. Here, you can learn about Arts Foundation Award recipients and view the TVNZ 7 series on LG Smart TVs, The Artists. Extended versions of The Artists, that include interviews with newly awarded artists, will also be screened on TVNZ 7.
Coming up:
Icon Margaret Mahy’s poem, Down the Back of the Chair, illustrated by Mallinson Rendel Illustrator's Award recipient David Elliot, features in an interactive children’s sandpit. In the poem ‘Dad’ finds all kinds of wonderful treasures down the back of the chair. Children dig in the sandpit to find the treasures. The sandpit is built by Arrow International for children of all ages. A special competition is taking place, which we are delighted that David Elliot has agreed to judge. Please bring your kids to meet David this Saturday.

On the next two Friday nights, Oscar Kightley and Florian Habicht will show a feature film, short film and music video at Silo Cinema. The films are projected onto the side of a large Silo.

9pm, 9 December - Florian Habicht, with feature film Love Story (made while Florian was in New York on the Harriet Friedlander Residency).
New Generation artist Warren Maxwell and his band Little Bushman play a concert at the Silos.

Nine writers have donated phrases or poems for display in a Writers Walk throughout the series. Words are located on silos, walls, containers, and a fishing boat. Writers include Arts Foundation Icons Patricia Grace, Margret Mahy and Hone Tuwhare, Laureates Kate de Goldi, Elizabeth Knox, Bill Manhire, Emily Perkins and Ian Wedde and New Generation recipient Eleanor Catton.
In the evenings during the first week of the Stoneleigh Summer Art Series, near the Karanga Plaza, the Arts Foundation presents Talk Box. The series features recipients announced at the 2011 Macquarie Private Wealth New Zealand Arts Awards and recipients from previous years. The programme will include presentations of artist works. A schedule will be announced soon. Talk Box is an opportunity to get up close and interact with artists while enjoying the al fresco pop-up Stoneleigh bar. The Stoneleigh Summer Art Series is an R18 event.
