Sony introduces new Reader, confirms special Harry Potter edition

After making announcements about its tablets and smartphones, Sony today announced the next version of it’s eReader as well. Sony has announced the new Reader Wi-Fi model PRS-T1, it’s latest touchscreen-focused eReader.
The new Sony Reader Wi-Fi is similar to other recent eReaders from Barnes & Noble and Kobo. It uses Infrared technology to have a touch-enabled e-ink display. So, unlike previous touch screen Sony Readers, this one has no glare, and doesn’t require a stylus. However Sony continues to include a stylus so you can still use it should you wish to. The other big feature is that it’s now easier to borrow eBooks from your library from the “Public Library” icon on the device’s homescreen.
Along with the announcement of the Sony Reader Wi-Fi, Sony confirmed the rumors of the special Harry Potter edition of the new device. There will be a limited edition of the Reader which will include a voucher for the eBook edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone from Pottermore. What the device will look like, or how much it will cost, we don’t know quite yet, though.
The device itself is pretty thin and light. It weighs just 168 grams, and is 8.9mm thick. It’s just 0.4mm thicker than the current Kindle, but is also about 75 grams lighter. So it’ll feel basically the same as the Kindle when you pick it up. It will be available in black, white, and red in October in the US and Europe for roughly $149.
