Michael King Writers' Centre seeks new Executive Director

The Michael King Writers’ Studio Trust is looking for a dynamic Executive Director for 30 hours a week to run the Michael King Writers’ Centre in Devonport, Auckland.
The Michael King Writers’ Centre is New Zealand’s first national writers’ centre. It operates from the historic Signalman’s House on Takarunga Mt Victoria in Devonport. The project supports New Zealand writers through its programme of writers’ residencies, visiting writer opportunities and workshops for writers at all stages of development. It celebrates New Zealand writing through a range of literary events and activities.

The Centre was established just over ten years ago and has grown rapidly to become a leading organisation in the New Zealand literary sector, with international linkages.

The Executive Director is responsible to the Michael King Writers’ Studio Trust. This is a pivotal role in the day to day smooth running of the Centre.

The Trust is looking for a person who loves books and writing in all its forms, who enjoys being around creative people, but is well-organised, a self-starter, savvy with technology and who can handle a challenge. This is a multi-faceted role.

Responsibilities include developing and maintaining relationships with funding organisations, working with key stakeholders, preparing applications for grants and meeting all reporting requirements, oversight of the centre’s financial accounts, managing projects and communications. It also includes delivering the Trust's fundraising strategy.
