An Author Day update from Frankfurt Book Fair

This week's Frankfurt Book Fair has shown, as ever, that exciting things happen when authors and publishers come together. Not only are deals sealed and books bought, but conversations take place with the potential to change the industry.
International book fairs are comparatively rare opportunities to see traditionally and independently published authors, author-publishers, entrepreneurs and newcomers sharing ideas and advice. With Author Day on Monday 30th November, this dialogue will be the focus.

If authors and publishers from different backgrounds have one thing in common, it is the search for new audiences. Even traditionally published authors want to increase their discoverability, and now organisations are not only providing independent authors with practical advice but forming sophisticated networks to support book sales in international markets.

One such organisation is the Alliance for Independent Authors (ALLI) whose founding director Orna Ross is speaking at this year's Author Day. Along with Nicola Solomon of the Society of Authors, Orna Ross's section will spark off a rapid rotation of perspectives, including:
Authors Jane Steen, Kamila Shamsie, Dave Morris and Harry Bingham
Unbound's Dan Kieran with author John Paul Flintoff
Faber Academy's Ian Ellard
Technologist and publisher Emma Barnes
Literary agents Andrew Lownie, Sheila Crowley, Piers Blofeld and more

Author Day is an exploration and frank exchange on challenges facing publishing's creative corps and its industry players. It aims to bring publishers and authors together, moving towards collaboration and action. As well as a chance to make your voice heard, both on the day and as part of a message delivered at this year's FutureBook Conference, the day will open up possibilities for authors and publishers of all kinds to make their work more visible, and to find those audiences, wherever they are.

How lovely to see my name mentioned all the way over in New Zealand (a country I would dearly like to visit, by the way). Lovely to "meet" you, Beattie.
