Little,
Brown will publish a sequel to Gregory David Roberts' Shantaram this
October, 10 years after the release of the original.
The Mountain Shadow will get a global publication on 13th October,
with Little, Brown publishing across the UK and Commonwealth, with Pan Macmillan releasing in Australia and
New Zealand.
Shantaram, Roberts' 944-page debut, was based on the author's own experiences of
life on the run in the Bombay underworld. The new novel picks up the story of
Lin two years after the events of Shantaram, in a changed Bombay, where
Lin is searching for love and faith. In terms of length, The Mountain Shadow
is said to be "substantial, much like Shantaram."
Antonia
Hodgson, editor-in-chief of Little, Brown UK said: "The Mountain Shadow
has everything you could wish for from a great novel and everything we have
come to expect from the genius behind Shantaram. It has the pace and
action of a thriller, but it is also profound and moving. When I first
published Shantaram I knew with absolute clarity that it would become a
classic. Ten years on it has sold four million copies worldwide – and changed
many lives along the way. The Mountain Shadow doesn’t just continue the
story – it tells us something new about love, life and faith. It’s wonderful. I
can’t wait for people to read it."
Shantaram has recorded sales of 412,411 copies across all editions via Nielsen
BookScan in the UK.
