Children's Sales Soared in 2014
Sales in the children's/young adult segment rose in 2014 over 2013, according to sales data supplied by publishers to the Association of American Publishers' StatShot program. The segment had the strongest gains of all publishing segments last year and benefited from a number of blockbuster titles, including the Divergent trilogy. 2015 Eric Carle Honorees Announced
The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art has announced the four recipients of the 2015 Carle Honors. See who will be presented with the prizes in an award ceremony on September 24. more

Obituaries
Terry Pratchett
Award-winning British fantasy author Terry Pratchett, creator of more than 70 books, including the long-running Discworld series, died on March 12 at his home following complications from a chest infection. He was 66. more
Roy McKie
Illustrator and cartoonist Roy McKie, best known for his several children's book collaborations with Dr. Seuss, died on January 8 in New Holland, Pa. He was 93. In recent years, he took delight in finding his books on local library shelves. "People will find [books] 100 years from now. Books won’t go away, I think.” more

Celebrating the Legacy of Walter Dean Myers
Friends, family members, colleagues, and those otherwise touched by the work of Walter Dean Myers gathered in Manhattan on March 9 for an evening of rich and decidedly up-tempo readings, speeches, and performances to honor his life. Myers died on July 1, 2014 at age 76. more
