Small Stories from Two Decades Michele Leggott

It is twenty years since one small incident changed the way I read and think about the world… In this sequence of interconnected stories, Michele Leggott traces the progression of her blindness from that critical threshold twenty years ago, and finds that poetry is a language to hold onto when other languages start to disappear.         One of the country’s leading poets, Michele lives right here in Devonport. She received the 2013 Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Achievement in Poetry and was New Zealand Poet Laureate in 2007-09. Heartland, her eighth volume of poetry published this year, was a finalist in the NZ Post Book Awards. Michele developed Small Stories from Two Decades for a conference in Australia last year. This is the first time she has read the work in her home country. She will also read from Heartland, a compelling and yet personal book about family, place, nature and the intersecting arcs of life.
