The D’Arcy Writers’
Residencies executive committee is soliciting applications from writers for two
three-month residencies on Waiheke Island, in the Hauraki Gulf, during 2016, to
write essays of 10,000 to 12,000 words on New Zealand life and culture.
Applications
for the 2016 residencies will close on August 28, 2015. They must include a
reasonably well developed synopsis of the proposed essay, plus a full
biographical note, including references to, and some examples of, previously
published work.
Copies of each application will be sent to executive
committee members for appraisal and a decision on the 2016 residencies will be
announced on Monday, October 5.
Two residential fellowships are awarded each
year for three calendar months. When the two successful writers are selected
they will negotiate, through the executive committee, for a suitable
three-month period in 2016.
The successful applicants will be based, during the
tenure, in the residence in at Bell Terrace, Waiheke. A stipend of $3000 will
be paid in three instalments of $1000 at the beginning of each month from the
first month of tenure, and a transport allowance of $500 will be provided.
The house will be occupied under the terms of reference
outlined by the managing committee and signed by the resident writers.
The writer will, of course, retain copyright and moral
rights for the work but the Committee will hold the publishing right.
Applications sent electronically to journo@clear.net.nz
are preferred. The postal address is: D’Arcy Writers’ Residencies, P O Box
2320, Shortland Street, Auckland 1140.
