enlivening commentary at the National Theatre in central London (http://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/discover/platforms/alan-bennett-2).

publisher Profile to offer a pair of tickets to the sold-out event.
To enter the competition to win the tickets, poetry fans are
being asked to name their favourite poem, and give a short commentary about the

Bennett had to say about the poem MCMXIV (1964) by Phillip Larkin: http://readingagency.org.uk/adults/SIX%20POETS%20extract.pdf

About Six Poets: Hardy to Larkin
In this delightful personal anthology Alan Bennett has selected
over seventy poems by six of his favourite poets: Thomas Hardy, A.E. Housman,
John Betjeman, W.H. Auden, Louis MacNeice and Philip Larkin.
Familiarly conversational in style, Britain's leading dramatist
and author accompanies each poem with engaging and shrewd commentary and
revealing biographical detail. Bennett brings us wonderfully witty portraits of
each poet and reveals with warmth and candour his own personal reactions to
their work.
Alan Bennett's many stage and television plays, his films and his
prose collections, Writing Home and Untold Stories, have made him one of
Britain's best-loved authors. His play The History Boys was the National
Theatre's most successful production ever.
