Nicola Legat to Depart Penguin Random House New Zealand


24 September 2014 Auckland: Margaret Thompson, MD, Penguin Random House New Zealand, today announced that Nicola Legat, Random House Publishing Director will be departing the organisation.
This announcement follows an earlier statement regarding the appointment of a new Leadership Team for Penguin Random House New Zealand, including Debra Millar in the role of Publishing Director, Penguin Random House New Zealand.
Since joining Random House in 2005, Nicola has published a number of award-winning books, including: Coast by Bruce Ansley and Jane Ussher (New Zealand Post 2014 Illustrated Non-fiction), Trust by Pip Desmond (New Zealand Post 2010 Best First Book for Non-fiction), Mates & Lovers by Chris Brickell (New Zealand Post 2009 Best First Book for Non-fiction).
She is a valued council member of Publishers Association New Zealand, a board member of the Auckland Writers Festival and a judge for various awards, for architecture, publishing and journalism.
Margaret Thompson said, “Nicola has had a remarkable career at Random House and was part of the team that won Publisher of the Year seven years in a row. She leaves with our sincere thanks and best wishes for the future.”

This is a huge blow for NZ publishing. Nicky is a good friend, a selfless and trusted mentor for many and a fantastically accomplished and inspired publisher. I hope someone else snaps her up.

As Rachel said, a terrible blow to NZ publishing. Nicky is a brilliant publisher, and a very, very hard act to follow. She was brilliant to deal with, and I wish her all the best.
