The publisher will donate a minimum of 15p to the RSPCA for every book sold. The fiction, non-fiction and annuals will be for children aged seven and older, with the stickerbooks aimed at four-to-five-year-olds.
The launch title will be published this month, the first-ever RSPCA Annual, including features such as puzzles and games, vet and true animal rescues stories. Beginning in January 2013, Scholastic will launch a series of stories based on real-life animal rescues: Little Lost Hedgehog; Puppy Gets Stuck; and Lamb All Alone. Also in January, the non-fiction strand will begin with All About . . ., a series of animal welfare books that will give children advice and information on caring for animals.
March 2013 will see the arrival of a series of sticker books featuring wildlife, pet and farm babies.
Scholastic Children's Books m.d. Hilary Murray Hill said: "Scholastic is delighted to partner the UK's most popular animal charity. We know children are passionate about animals. Our books are designed to enhance young readers' appreciation of them and to support responsible pet ownership . . . We are thrilled to be working with the RSPCA to save animal's lives and to be launching our exciting partnership."
The RSPCA's licensing manager Cathy Snow said: "Scholastic's aim from the outset was to produce a series of books that educate and entertain in a way that is entirely appropriate to the age group of the readers. At the same time Scholastic and the RSPCA have worked together to ensure that each book combines good animal welfare advice with a wonderful reading experience for young children."
