Pseudonymous SEAL Author of NO EASY DAY Identified

PublishersLunch
Just one day after Dutton announced the September 11 publication of NO EASY DAY, a firsthand account of the SEAL Team Six mission that killed Osama Bin Laden, and controversy swirled over whether the book had been properly vetted by government agencies, author "Mark Owen" was identified by a number of news outlets as Matt Bissonnette, 36, who retired from the SEALs last summer.
A Dutton spokesperson did not confirm "Owen"'s real identity, saying in a statement that "personal security is the sole reason the book is being published under a pseudonym. "We respectfully request that all news organizations and all Americans consider these facts when deciding whether to pursue or publicize his real identity."
Despite the confirmed disclosure of his real identity, "Owen" is still slated to appear in shadow for a number of television appearances to promote NO EASY DAY. CBS News' anchor Scott Pelley told the AP that "60 Minutes" has interviewed the author and will air the interview on September 9.
