E-Books Strain Relations Beween Libraries, Publishing Houses

E-books have changed the world of publishing in fundamental ways. The business model that encouraged publishers to support the work of public libraries has changed to such an extent that this relationship has been stressed to the point of non cooperation.

Not saying I like this change Graham, (I was at one stage a librarian, of all things :) )but I suspect over the next 20 years public libraries will largely cease to exist, and private corps such as Amazon will set up similar online ... already occurring in fact. I'm sure in the US Amazon runs a 'lending' program.

And there might be a benefit for that to authors, in that unlike the once only purchase of a library, electronic lends are easy to track, so some type of royalty still possible per read?
