Some of my plane reading during my recent trip to Europe

lION HEART by Justin Cartwright- Bloomsbury

Excellent plane read from a marvellous writer, the back cover blurb sums it up neatly:

Richard Cathar was named after his father’s hero, Richard the Lionheart. Richard remembers his recently-deceased father, Alaric, as a delusional hippy, who saw himself as an intellectual and historian. Following in his father’s footsteps, Richard travels to Jerusalem where he falls deeply in love with Noor, a beautiful but mysterious Canadian-Arab journalist. When Noor is kidnapped on assignment in Cairo and the facts of her capture emerge, Richard stumbles upon an important document, one that could rewrite not just the history of the Crusades, but his father’s and his own as well.

BLACK DIAMOND by Martin Walker - Quercus

Inspector Bruno Courreges, a local copy in the Perigord region of France, is one of my favourite characters in crime fiction. He is something of a gourmand and there is much about food in Malcolm Walkers wonderful series which I guess is part of the appeal.

THE SKIN COLLECTOR - Jeffery Deaver - Hodder & Stoughton

This author is one of my all-time favourite crime fiction writers
with his marvellous paraplegic forensic expert with the NYPD, Lincoln Rhyme . I was gripped from beginning to end, plane reads don't come any better than this.

PROVENCE & THE COTE D"AZUR -Eyewitness Travel - Dorling Kindersley

This proved to be an excellent source of advance information prior to our 18 days in these two regions. The great thing about these beautiful, immaculately researched guides is that they are updated very year or two so you can totally relay on them. We found it incredibly invaluable and had it with us at all tiumes.

A FAMILY OF READERS - The book lover's guide to children's and young adult literature - By Roger Sutton
and Martha V. Parravano - Candlewick Press

Rather more serious than most of my p[lane reading but this was a gift from a London-based publishing friend. The book is for reading parents interested in passing on their love of reading to their kids,.

Roger Sutton and Martha Parravano, along with The Horn Book Magazine’s respected reviewers and children’s book authors and illustrators offer insight into how books are read to (and eventually by) young people and how to nurture the reading lives of children.
