Pan Macmillan announced today the launch of Book Break, the UK’s first publisher-produced global book show.

Book Break, which will be hosted by author and journalist, Alex Heminsley, will be broadcast at lunchtime on the first Friday of every month at 12.30pm GMT.
Ahead of the first broadcast, the Pan Macmillan digital team will be building buzz for the show with a social media teaser campaign blitz and a specially-created trailer going live today: http://www.youtube.com/user/panmacmillanbooks?feature=watch

The first of the half-hour programmes, which will be recorded “as live”, will feature Pan Macmillan authors, Naomi Wood, author of Mrs. Hemingway, a re-imagining of the lives of Ernest Hemingway’s four wives, Karen Swan, author of the bestselling Christmas at Claridges and forthcoming The Summer Without You, and Louise Johncox, whose The Baker’s Daughter – Timeless Recipes from Four Generations of Bakers will be published on 14 March.

The show will also include latest news from the book world, a Pan Macmillan staff Top 10 and a VT of an interview with bestselling crime fiction novelist, Peter James.
Future plans for the site include licensing content to a range of partners, brands and other websites, creating additional content for ebook bundles and using footage within the industry, at Book Fairs and for foreign rights’ sales.

It will also provide opportunities to build Pan Macmillan’s bestselling brands through mini-documentary video releases.
Six months down the line, it’s planned to start broadcasting the shows live, with viewers tweeting in their questions and interacting with presenter, Alex Heminsley, and her guests.
Book Break has been produced in partnership with broadcast consultancy, markettiers4dc.

Pan Macmillan’s Managing Director, Anthony Forbes Watson, comments,

"Book Break is author promotion via direct reader engagement, through the medium we know works best. This new web based TV show will talk about books and authors in a way which is relevant to today's consumer, starting with the author and their experiences, and will provide a dynamic and innovative realisation of how life can be best served up in a good read. We are delighted that Alex Heminsley will be fronting the show and look forward to the direct interactions with readers which will set this show apart."
